This resource outlines the key characteristics of Microscopic Colitis (MC) which is an inflammatory Bowel Disease that affects the large bowel (colon and rectum).

The symptoms of Microscopic Colitis have some overlap with diarrhoea prominent Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS-D) and can lead to misdiagnosis, with 1 in 10 IBS-D patients being found to have Microscopic Colitis1. This document highlights the key differentiating factors between MC and IBS.
